(first published in the AKC Gazette, March 1979, an article by Melissa Bartlett)

comparitively for testing results, "Tigre's" testing.
Social Attraction:  Score 4
Following, Score 3
Restraint, Score 5
Social Dominance, 6
Retreiving, 5
Touch Sensitivity, 3
Sound Sensitivity, 4
Sight Sensitivity, 2

two 3's, two 5's, a 2, 4 and 6.
the test says she will be outgoing, friendly and will adjust well in situations, flexible temperament, the 5s say she is submissive and bonds closely to owners but is aloof from the score of 6 with one 2 as being dominant and self-assured.  (she does not challenge dominance but she's not a push over either.  She readily submits to Grace with Grace being the eldest female, but Tigre' doesn't leave it alone either, she will submit to Grace but will wait and come back to being friendly, she does not cower from Grace or anyone, she's a peacemaker, a protector and loves to be hunged and play catch, she's a perfect combination for a standard poodle with a great personality)

She is outgoing, friendly, wagging tail that clears tables, she is everybody's best friend.  She does dominant with a big bark with someone coming towards the yard or house, we are her priority, she's a total sweetheart.  When there's discord in the house amongst the canine (over a bone, otherwise never), she is the peacemaker.  She's a perfect girl around the house, stays out of the crate at night without any trouble, never distructive.  Tigre's love is to play catch, retrieve, catch, retrieve ... for as long as you will play, it's her passion, her most favorite things are laying around rassling with Joaquin on the floor, plays with Hilde endlessly and rough housing, plays with and submits to Everad and Grace.  She is a wonderful balance of a sweet and loving poodle.

Puppy Development

Puppy development is right on schedule, they are eating a puppy gruel in the mornings, their eye teeth are in and momma is not interested in nursing them for very long at a time.  Their personalities are distinctive enough to know which puppy they are, but there's always the growth splurt that can throw off even the me.

Week Three (Days 15-21)

DEVELOPMENT OF THE PUPPIES
  • Teeth begin to erupt
  • Puppies stand up and start walking
  • Begin to lap liquids
  • Defecate/urinate without stimulation
  • Start becoming aware of their environment
  • Start playing with littermates, rolling around chewing on each other
  • Develop sense of smell, they can locate momma by smell
  • Puppies will start to discriminate as to where to relieve themselves
CARE OF THE PUPPIES
  • Start adding stimuli (toys) to puppies' life
  • Start giving specific stresses when handling (i.e.. pinch an ear or toe gently).
  • Start giving puppy mush daily, then increase as weaning from dam
  • Weigh puppies 2-3 week
  • Give puppies a dirty shirt of yours to play with
  • Start weekly grooming sessions (brush, trim nails, look at teeth, etc.)
TO DO LIST
  • Purchase milk replacer to feed puppies

Two weeks old today

the only sign Tigre' is giving is she's uncomfortable and will play with the puppies,

Puppies are joining us in the family room to experience regular sounds of the household
Davina's eyes are completely open, Dmitry is calm and will roll over and chew on his siblings, all of the puppies are doing great.  I was carrying the puppies back to the sanctuary, Hilde barked and I jumped, I said, "Hilde be quiet" .. D'Angelo says .... grrrrupf.  As soon as the puppies heard D'Angelo couple others did the same grrruff!   just too cute!

see the white on these black puppies?  I'm not sure they will be blues
I think they will be black with white on their feet, chest and chin ... they are darling!

their little noses going up the side of the puppy pool

side view of dark puppy and siblings

they are now snug as a bug in their clean peaceful area
the whelping lamp is off, the window open for natural fresh air and sunlight
and might I add, they are now sleeping soundly, wow that was a lot of work for these puppies!

Puppy Pictures

One Week, Six Days
"Daniella" another puppy jumping the walls and looking for momma,
see her eyes, they are pretty much open, all of the puppies can hear good too

Nursing puppies, Momma will not do this, she got up I had to leave the room so she would go back and feed them.  No pictures while they're eating!  This is a private time for momma and puppies.

they are up and wobbling around, goin faster than momma can keep up, so I'm helping cleaning the puppy area several times a day.   They are so cute!
